Need A “Sacred Bark of the Aztecs Amatl Box” For Your Leica?

If so, you’re in business. Somebody is selling one on Ebay as we speak, only $225 and another $25 to ship it straight to your door. Comes with a nice little leather pouch too. Whether the pouch is sacred is not clear.

Speaking of interesting things on Ebay, there’s a “Leica Rangefinder 1934 Black And Chrome Camera with Keith Elma’s 1:35 F=50mm” currently for sale as well. Who Keith Elma is isn’t explained either.

I presume, this guy in Verona, New Jersey, United States has a QWERTZ keyboard, not a QWERTY. Additionally: the track record of that «Elma» family is somehow dubious. Hence I’m inclined to conclude: it’s not Keith’s lens at all, but Katy’s lens, Keith is Katy’s thievish brother. Poor Katy!

That box was part of a “special edition” Leica R3 that came with the same burgundy leather on the camera body as that pouch. There was also a full kit with a (rather ugly) attaché case, the same R3 body, a burgundy leather-wrapped auto winder and I believe 28, 50 and 135mm R lenses.

My local San Francisco Leica Store recently had a pristine example of the whole kit in their used department for a rather high price, and it sold very quickly.

I rather liked the look of the burgundy leather on the black chrome camera body.
